- Heat the oil with the butter and thyme sprigs in a heavy large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the asparagus in a single layer; using tongs, toss to coat. Saute, turning often, until crisp-tender and beginning to brown in spots, about 8 minutes. If you have too many asparagus, you may need to do this in two batches.
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper, and serve.
