- In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt- making sure there are no streaks of egg left.
- Soak each piece of bread in the egg mixture, making sure to turn it so both sides are well-coated. Let any excess liquid drip off.
- Preheat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add a pat of butter and swirl it around to coat the pan. Add the soaked French toast (let the excess egg mixture drip off before you put it in the pan), and cook until light golden on both sides, about 3 to 5 minutes per side, flipping once. You can adjust the heat down if necessary. You will likely need to cook the French toast in 2 batches.
- Serve warm, topped with anything you like.
